To Operate Or Not

So I have been at the hospital pretty much all the time for the past week, only when I’ve had to be a work or asleep have I not been here.

My dad’s doing a lot better, but They want to operate on his neck they said the accident is causing his neck bones to push in on his spinal cord and that it is best if they fix that.

My uncle and Aunts in NY want me to get a second opinion and are leaning toward not doing anything, my dad honestly doesn’t care one way or the other, and the way the doctor explained it to me surgery looks like the best option for a more complete recovery in the long run.

I am really confused on what to do, because I want the best possible recovery for him even if it takes a little longer to recover from.

I also want to thank everyone who has had my dad in their thoughts and prayers I am very grateful to you all.

I had my neck fused last summer... my bones were pushing on my spinal cord. It's really not a bad surgery, I recovered quickly. I was told it would cause permanent nerve damage if I didnt. I had already lost feeling in my arm before the surgery.

Spinal surgery is kind of a big deal, so I'd go with your aunts and uncles about getting a second opinion. Not because it may be better that he doesn't have it done, but because there may be a different and less risky kind of surgery that could help. Either way, that's a tough call and I hope they're supporting you with it. *hugs*

So sorry to hear this! It must be so difficult to make that kind of decision. I wanted to tell you that I work for a physical therapy facility/Orthopaedic Surgeon office and I have seen a lot of people go through with neck surgeries & most never regret it! Has your dad done any therapy yet? I hope this all gets sorted out and your dad gets better =D

Hi Angel,

I came by your site from Melissa's blog, and just wanted to say that I'm keeping your dad in my prayers. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Just go with what feels right for your dad and what the both of you feel will be the best for him, even if recovery takes longer. I hope everything works out.

Best,

Lauren Michelle

Hey sweetheart, I'm still sending really good energy yours and your dads way. I really hope he gets well really quickly!

Can you check your email and let us know if you still want to do the swap? If not, that is totally ok and we fully understand, we just don't want to send out books for you if you are still planning on doing it, we just need to know.

I assume it's the last thing you are thinking about but we are trying to figure out what to do.
