Angel Reads

So today I figured that I would do a small book review on a book I finished at work this morning. Enchanted by Alethea Kontis. I will admit that I bought this book because of the cover and the little blurb on the jacket:

“It isn’t easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday’s only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true.

When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland—and a man Sunday’s family despises.

The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past—and hers?”

Sounds great right??

Well this book I would only give 3 out of 5 stars for, at most. It had promise, it had intrigue, it had what sounded like a great plotline. What I found really happened was the author opened a book of fairy tales and then proceeded to attempt to cram every single fairy tale in the book into one story. I just got WAY to confused.

Some of the Characters were amazing! I liked Sunday at the beginning of the book, and when she was interacting with her brother, but the rest of the time she just kind of faded into the background, which is a bad thing for a main character to do.

I loved the prince’s cousin, he was the perfect comic relief.

All in all it was a decent book, not quite the best ever, but not a horrid one either. At it’s heart it has characters that are likeable. It just feels like the author could have written at least seven different books versus just this one, but instead she tried so hard to connect the threads that we lost the main plot and ended up with a jumbled mess.

Have you read this book? What did you think? What are you reading now?

I Got An Award!!

I am so excited that I got an award! I was given the Liebester award from Becca At Everyday Life!

So to jump right in:

Here are the rules:

  • Each person must post 11 things about themselves.
  • Answer the 11 questions the person giving the award has set for you.
  • Create 11 questions for the people you will be giving the award to.
  • Choose 11 people to award and send them a link to your post. Go to their page and tell them.
  • No tag backs.

So 11 things about me:

1. I love to look at the night sky, in fact I have taken 4 astronomy classes just so I could star gaze.

2. I love lightning, but am absolutely petrified of thunder, always have been.

3. I love love love to read, I almost always have at least one book within reach at all times.

4. I keep The Gift by Aselin Debison on my MP3 player all year and sing it when I feel low.

5. I used to be very good on the Violin, but am very out of practice.

6. I Despise with a passion, all things that look like, are or could possibly be spiders. I cannot even look at pictures without shuddering and nightmares. My father loves to joke that there are 300 kinds of poisonous spiders in the world and 280 of them live in SC. He will also be driving and throw fake spiders at me around Halloween... I hate spiders...

7. I have a horrible temper, My friends say I am the worst combination possible and REALLY Big Bomb with a REALLY long fuse and when it explodes you get hit with everything that bothered me for the past few years.

8. I have no spine, I have all sorts of witty remarks I would love to say to people who make me mad, or just bug me but I am always worried about hurt feelings so I never say them.

9.  I have a list of celebrity “I Wants” but most of them are from old movies, so It’s not like I’d have a chance!

10. I love my red hair, I just feel like red is more me, but I have alternated between light and dark reds a lot

11. I want a large family when I finally have one.

Okay now Becca’s Questions:

what are you currently reading or would like to read?

Currently I am reading:

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, Enchanted, and The Ugly Duchess

If you could have dinner with one person living or dead who would it be?

Celebrity? Frank Sinatra. Non Celebrity? My grandmother.

If you could go back in time to one day in your life which day would it be and why?

This is a tough one, I am assuming that the rules of time-travel will apply and I won’t be able to change anything, but I would want to go back to Christmas Eve 1991 I want to spend Christmas with my Grandma, Papa and Nana again.

Long or Short hair?

Long, always long.

Favorite cartoon as a kid?

Sailor Moon!

Morning or night person?

Honestly? Depends on my work schedule. But I am usually a cheery morning person.

If your life was a movie what would it be a comedy, drama, horror?

I would love it to be a comedy, but probably a drama, or a soap opera.

If you found yourself pregnant at this moment would you want a boy or girl?

I would want twins! One of each. But just one child? A Boy, I have always wanted a boy first, although if I found myself pregnant right at this moment I would be REALLY concerned because you kind of need two for that and I haven’t had the second person around since March so that would worry me.

Hit shuffle on your iPod or if you don't own one turn on the radio and name the first song that plays?

Mermaids and Poets!

If you were a singer and had to pick a duet partner who would it be and why?

Michael Buble, I love his style and the smoothness of his voice, he reminds me of the music from the Rat Pack and I love that style.

name the last movie you watched be it on TV or in the theater?

Last movie? Mirror Mirror.

Okay now My 11 Questions:

What is your favorite Disney song?

If you won the lottery what would be the first non-practical thing you would do?

Fairy Tales Reimagined.

First off I wanted to say Today is my Birthday!!! Yay me! Once again I am linking up with Danielle for Fairy Tale Week, although I might have an It’s Okay post later on!

Photobucket

Today’s topic is books about fairy tales, I have quite a few, plus some I can’t wait to read!

I am going to start out with 2 of my favorites, and funnily enough they are based on the same fairy tale. (Once again if you want any of these click on the image to buy them!)

These two are Young Adult novels based on the story of the 12 Dancing Princesses; and even though they are based on the same fairy tale they could not be more different. I will admit I bought Entwined because of the cover, the silver is metallic and shimmers, and the Princess of the Midnight Ball is the 1st in a series, so you should definitely read the other two!

This is a romance loosely based on Little Mermaid, it does have some Greek mythology thrown in, so I really loved it, again this is the 1st in a series.

The next three are by the same author, 1 I loved, 1 was meh and 1 I am currently reading.

Wicked Jealous is a modern retelling of Snow White, only snow doesn’t start out the fairest in the land, but I LOVED this book.

Little Miss Red- Obviously a little red riding hood book, started out great, but I could barely finish it, although most of the reviews said it was wonderful.

Cindy Ella- I am about halfway through this and so far so good!

Alex Finn is a WONDERFUL storyteller, I have LOVED all of her fairy tale retellings, but Beastly is by far my favorite of hers, if you’ve seen the movie with Vanessa Hudgins, read the book, it is so much better, the character are so much more developed and Hollywood REALLY let the ball drop with that movie.

I honestly could keep going with books I’ve read but here are some I want to, if you’ve read them let me know what you think, and if you want an in-depth review of any of these please let me know!

So what books are you reading?
