Because I Need To Vent….

 

As most of you know I work at a hotel, I like my job and have worked in the hotel industry from the time I was 17 years old until now, so over 10 years… (holy cow!) I have worked in high class $150 per night hotels and low class $34.95 a night motels. I do my job well and am usually getting comment cards with my name on them saying that I made someone’s day brighter or helped them enjoy their stay.

This is not what my need to vent is about, my need to vent is about the management. I consider myself a good employee, I am NEVER late, in fact I make it a large habit to be at least 30 min early for each of my shifts. I do not say no when the managers call me in to work on my days off, even when they only give me 30 min notice. and I do a lot of things at my current job that I don’t consider to even be in my job description.

What annoys me is that they treat me like crud. I work all 3 shifts in one week usually for example this week I work Sunday and Monday from 11pm to 7 am. then on Wednesday I work from 3-11 and Friday I work 9 to 3 and sat from 3-11 again. While this is not ideal with my school schedule I do not complain because hours are good and I would rather be working than not. Just for reference  I have class from 7:30 –2:30 Mon &Wednesday, I have class from 7:30 till 11:30 on Tuesday and Thursday and from 7:30 to 8:55 on Friday.

This is still not my problem, here is where I get angry. I worked on sat, because we were busy, and then on sun at 630 am my boss called me into work, even though I worked 11pm-7am that night. I worked until 1pm that day. then came back and rented over 25 rooms that night, the hotel had 57 rooms when I left, I ran breakfast until 730, and my boss was late, so I got locked out of my first class. I had to refill the breakfast 3 times before I finally got to leave and then I get to work tonight to find a nasty note about not letting people walk, last night I had maybe 4 people come in that didn’t get rooms, and they didn’t get rooms because we had only non-smoking rooms available, so unless they want me to tell the guests they can smoke in a non-smoking room no, they were not going to get rooms.

Then on top of that I found out that the manager had been talking about me with a co-worker (a big no no in my opinion) and told him I do nothing. UMM first of all I walk the parking lot every 30 min (something a front desk clerk shouldn’t do) to look out for people breaking into vehicles (on their orders) 2nd I do everything they ask me to do, fold the laundry, mop, sweep, and restock breakfast. and deal with the guests. so I am SERIOUSLY pissed off right now….

 

Do you guys think I’ve got the right to be? or am I over reacting?

What Happened To Manners??

Sometimes I really HATE my job… Well not the job itself but the people I deal with, the rude obnoxious people who think because I work in customer service I am here to take their crap and do nothing… and for the most part that IS my job.

Sometimes I get people Who’s kids make me want to smack the parents… Then groups of annoying people… and sometimes it’s a full moon. But I mostly deal with it with a smile on my face. Tonight I am angry though…

I had a guy come to the desk for 2 rooms, he handed me his drivers license, and I checked the reservations, he didn’t have one, so I check the guest history and no dice. Then he says I have a card on file… now there are only 2 ways hotels will let you use a credit card that is not present, you can book through a prepaid site like expedia, hotels.com, priceline, orbitz, cheaptickets, or others of their ilk, (personally they are NOT worth it) 

OR

You can sign up for 3rd party authorization, which is when you fax us an authorization letter and a copy of your Credit card and ID and we keep it on file for when you want the card charged… it literally takes 10 seconds!!

This guy literally cussed me out because I would not charge a card, I did not have a way of verifying because he told me too. I have to follow protocols people!!

 

And another thing….

Hotels have a Check In and Check Out time for a reason, it is not just to decorate the pretty paper on the desk, or because we hate you and don’t want you to stay with us, or because we like to see you squirm.

It is so that the rooms can be properly cleaned and made ready for the next guest. This does not mean at 11 am you can come in, have me tell you that I will not have any rooms until 3pm and then go outside and follow my housekeeper around until she’s done with a room, and walk up to the desk and expect me to give it to you… My head housekeeper has to check it, and my maintenance man has to fix any problems we may have had. If you sit there and pout and whine like a two year old and throw a fit because I tell you to wait, then you will get on my nerves, and that makes me have a worse day.

Sorry for all the venting today. I honestly have not been having a good week and today just set me off. I will post more often I promise.

2010 Review Part 2!!

 

So It's Time for Part 2!! April, May and June! There also were not a lot of posts from these months, I seem to have lost some of my blogging mojo in the first half of the year!

April

I joined in on Short Mama’s Journey from Muffin Top to Skinny Jeans, I made a lot of resolutions that I have not kept, although reading back now, I plan to try again!

My Best Friend M had some serious Misadventures in Romance  in her life, I am glad to say she divorced Navyboi finally, (read that post for more information on the two not so great men in her life.) but she is still talking to MarineBoi and he is still hitting her.. she is distancing herself from him though, so I am very glad of that.

I had a very bad month With the Passing of my Papa, which tore me apart inside, I did not get to say goodbye because of my mother and I have a lot of regrets from that whole situation, because I didn’t know that later this year I would also loose my Uncle.

I participated in Short mama's Spring Swap!! I got so Many Wonderful things!! If she ever host’s another I plan to sign right up!!

 

May

May Was a very stressful month for me:

I ranted about the way some people behave in a hotel, through a collection of cute sticky notes.

James Dean and Ingio Montoya stayed at my hotel!

I tried to find my style only to realize that I don’t really have one although I’d love to wear the clothes I showed!!

I got kicked out, moved back in and kicked out once more, quit my job, got a new one! and moved back in again. all in 1.5 weeks

I found out my new hotel was closing… then being kept open…. then closing again

 

June

another worried and sucky month for me, Still was worried about losing my job and paying for the apartment on my own.

Lost the job officially, it was a really bad week for me!

My mother and I had some issues,

So I was jobless and paycheck-less, but I got a lot of things done!

I avoided Temptation.

Got my paycheck and Prue Moved in!!

Told a little about me!!!

Forever and A Day

 

Okay so once again it’s been forever and a day from the last time I posted.

My mother and Father have come to an agreement on visitation rights and child support so that is a good thing. We will see how long my mother sticks to it.

 

So this week has been hectic for me.  lol On Sunday I came to work and was informed of some interesting things that had happened during the night shift,

One guest put his girlfriend through the window of their hotel room, the police were called, but by the time they arrived the couple had vanished, only THEY CAME BACK!!! Apparently they had forgotten their ummm smoking material of choice (its green and grows and is illegal except in California lol) so they figured the logical thing to do would be to come back and get it! then they argued in the car about who would go into the room and get it, while they were arguing the police had enough time to come back and surround them. they were arrested of course, but the night wasn’t over.

while this was going on one of our regulars was coming back from his nightly partying and was drunker than a skunk, he pulled up to the chief of police’s car and informed him that he needed to move the squad car as the gentleman (and I use that term lightly) wished to park in that particular spot, the chief of police said no, and the guest pulled up to the car, then he was informed that he should back away from the car, the guest couldn’t put his car in reverse and HIT the chief of police’s squad car… of course leading to an impound and jail.

God I LOVE my job! lol

I need to figure out what to wear for Halloween, I was informed we could wear tasteful costumes to work so I need one! Any ideas?

I promise promise promise to write more often!!

Well It is official...

As of yesterday at 5pm I am no longer employed, The owner of the hotel didn't even wait for the bank to take it he called us and said that he was washing his hands of us.

The unemployment people will be here at 2pm to sign us up... with my luck I will not be eligible.

My manager brought me strawberry sprinkle doughnuts to make me "not cry" he said... and a coke.

He told me to call a previous boss and try to get a job with him and that when and if the hotel opened again he would "steal me right back from him."

Kensei is pissed... the whole reason I am still in SC was this job was the best opportunity for me to get a car before moving to TN, and now I don't have it.

Because of the location of my old bosses hotel I could only work 7-3 because that's when my father is at his job which is 45 min from our house but down the road from that hotel... and I don't think I could get the pay that I would need from him.

So If anyone wants a hotel I know one for sale! and Wish me luck with job hunting and unemployment!

Customer Service…

 

Okay so I work in a hotel, we all know this, but sometime I want to forget that I am a nice person and that I care about people and try to do my best, because some people just need to be smacked!! Not really but you know what I mean, so I am stealing and combining a few things I like a few days late, Dear So and So and sticky notes.

 

 

And then because I feel kinda whiny from that Here is M when she was with me the other night, I only messed with the picture a little so I could have done better.

Full Moons…..

This guy and girl come into the hotel for a room, normal right? The girl is wearing a jacket, it’s chilly outside also normal right? well it would be but umm that’s ALL she was wearing! No panties, no top nothing but that jacket!.

Apparently Kensei has an Arch Nemesis ! And it is even more cool because said Arch Nemesis is an old friend of his, (not cool in the fact they are enemies but cool that he has one… I want one!)

 

I wish my parents would get a divorce already because well they are stressing me out with all their drama!

 

It’s not Tuesday but I am doing my random’s tonight because well it’s a full moon and I wanted to use the Castle quote!!!

Seriously??????

So I walked into work today expecting to have a lot of busy work to do only to be attacked by the owner. Now not physically but verbally, Apparently after I left a TV was taken from room 200 and he flat out accused  me of taking the TV and taking money from the drawer, No this pissed me off and I lost my temper and talked back to him , but I still had to argue with him as to some of the other employees, Apparently the old manager and the staff told him I was honest and he felt like he needed to test that and me exploding proved it so then he asked me about the others I told him that there were a few I had suspicions about but no proof and wasn’t going to accuse without it.

He then asked whether I thought some of the desk was honest, When he got to Eri I was pissed again, I pointed out that the stuff had been going on LONG before she got here and that she is one of the most honest people I know and that’s ignoring the fact that we are friends!

Apparently there will be some changes to the staff and maybe even some money to fix things soon. He even offered to try to get the locks that have never actually locked fixed in the next few months!

 

When A Door Closes…..

 

They say  that when a door closes God opens a window, I sure hope that’s true.  I know I do an awful lot of complaining about my job, but I do love my manager and most of the employees. It’s the owner and a few FD girls who are the issues, but that’s all going to change.

My manager, quit today, he says he will still come in and work on Sunday night from 6-11 for me so I can go to Air force's 18th birthday party, but if he doesn’t then I will drop the money in the safe and leave.  I refuse to be here all shift like I was on my birthday because the Owner has an issue spending money to take care of his property.

I can call my old boss and see if he is hiring, and I have put in applications around the area so wish me luck.

I am going to try to stick it out here for the last three months before I move but if the owner gets who it is rumored he is getting then I cannot work with him again, he was extremely touchy-feely and made me uncomfortable.

SO I am hoping  that when God closed a door he openeda window I can squeeze through.

You and I are starting to get a lot more friendly than I’d like, today we sold all but the most unsellable rooms, even the ones I wouldn’t stay in even if after one night I was given a million dollars. and yet you STILL were not happy?????? Why??? What would it take to make you happy? You keep threatining to fire my manager who has done an incredible job with what you give him and I just find it amazing you have the nerve!

Have you ever noticed that people who used to be pretty aren't anymore?? now this doesn't apply to everyone but still.

Keely was talking about the scam emails, I wish one would be real, but with my luck i would delete it anyways.

I wonder if the owner of the hotel could come down off his high horse and stay in the hotel for a night perhaps he would understand why we don't sell out of rooms.

I HATE Roaches!!! They are evil creepy things.

I love when people call you and you answer they hang up so you call back and they go oh wrong number, say that when I answer!!!!

Kensei and I are in an odd phase right now, he has been out will his friends every night until threeish in the morning, which is great for him, but that means we don't talk because I sleep.

Twice in one day?? Wow thats news worthy!

I need sleep. I work crazy hours and feel insane most of the time. I am not sure how I am going to Manage to pass any of my classes this semester.

Good things that have happened this week.
(you know 'cause I totally have to keep looking at the silver lining)

1. M went to Japan (never mind I wanted to go with her, and that I drove her to the airport at 3 am!!)

2. I should be getting a new laptop/and or car at next paycheck cross your fingers and hope for me!

3. My manager rocks! He has let me have one day off and still paid me!

4. I have found several more blogs to stalk!!!

5. I am making a blog roll so that people can stalk the same blogs I stalk!
(For example my newest blog to stalk is Rena! go on take a look, she loves comments BTW)

TALES FROM THE AUDIT SHIFT!!!! *cuts off spooky music*

On my way to work tonight as I got off the exit there were 6 police cars behind a car, and three in front of it as well as a news van, I thought wow, I wonder what happened there but I was in a hurry and went to work. Got to work and just kind of went through the evening happily until one of our regulars rushed down and told me "Girl, turn on the news!" I did and they were talking about a manhunt for someone who was wanted for two robberies and was loose on our street. So far at midnight I have seen a total of seven police officers walk into the hotel, plus we were all ordered to lock car doors, and home doors, unfortunately I cannot lock the hotel door, so I am sitting here waiting to hear what happens. I was nervous because i spent about 20 min standing at my car chatting with a friend in the parking lot until I went into work. Bad things could have happened.
